On October 26-27, the Skolkovo Foundation convenes a business mission to Switzerland. The event will be held via videoconference and is organized with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland to Moscow and the Swiss Business Hub in Russia, as well as with the participation of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation of Switzerland (SERI), the Swiss Innovation Agency Innosuisse, industry associations SwissGognitive and digitalswitzerland and a number of Swiss chambers of commerce.

The business mission will be held as part of the International Program “Global Challenge - Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).” The program was initiated by the Skolkovo Foundation and its partners, such as Tinkoff and Marine Innovations, to promote Russian innovative developments in artificial intelligence on a global scale and to attract the attention of the technological community to the UN SDGs.

The event will bring together on one online platform Russian AI projects and technology companies from Switzerland and other European countries interested in using artificial intelligence technologies.

Nine Russian innovative companies are taking part in the business mission: Just AI, Smart engines, BIOSMART, WebioMed, NapoleonIT, AIMED, SOL, Singularis Lab and Warden Machinery.

About 30 foreign companies and organizations confirmed their participation in the business mission, including Allianz Suisse, Sulzer, Oerlikon, IBM Research, KPMG, RGG Capital, Union Bancaire Privée, AXA Winterthur and others.

In early October, an educational webinar was organized for Russian startups to review the current economic situation and the innovation ecosystem in Switzerland. The webinar participants learned about the funding programs of the Swiss agency Innosuisse, and the head of the Swiss Business Hub in Russia, Lorenz Widmer, spoke about the specifics of entering the Swiss market. Ivan Orlov from Scientific Visual shared his personal experience of creating a technology company in Switzerland.

Monday, October 26, will be the main day of the business mission, with the following key speakers:

  • Viktor Vekselberg, Chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation’s Board of Directors;
  • Yves Rossier, Ambassador of Switzerland to Russia;
  • Arkady Dvorkovich, Chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation;
  • Reinhard Scholl, Deputy Director, Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, International Telecommunication Union;
  • Bert Jan Offrein, Chief Researcher, IBM Research - Zurich;
  • Konstantin Parshin, Vice-President, Executive Director of the IT Cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation;
  • Sergey Dutov, Director for IT Development of the IT Cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation;
  • Grigoriy Kabatyansky, Adviser to the President, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.

At the event, the Foundation will present the “Global Challenge - Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development” program to a wide international audience, and Russian startups will deliver online pitches to potential foreign partners. Previously, the organizers held mentoring sessions with experts from the Skolkovo Ventures investment platform, who gave recommendations to startups both on the development of their projects and on improving the presentations.

Viktor Vekselberg, Chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation’s Board of Directors: “AI technologies have a tremendous potential for achieving the (UN) Sustainable Development Goals. And it is no coincidence that the first business mission within the framework of the new program of the Foundation was organized to Switzerland, a country that has been holding leading positions in the ranking of the most innovative nations for many years in a row. We already have a successful experience of interacting in the academic field, which we will continue to expand. We are now moving on to working together in the field of applied technologies applicable in healthcare, financial sector, and smart cities. Switzerland, as well as Russia, has strong technology teams developing deep tech innovations based on AI, and a favorable environment has been created for their practical implementation. Therefore, we see broad prospects for deepening cooperation in this area.”

On the last day of the business mission, October 27, individual B2B meetings between Skolkovo residents and foreign partners will be held.
