Skolkovo Foundation has launched the international program of innovative projects “Global Challenge – Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. The program will contribute to stimulating demand for artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, promoting SDGs in Russia, and developing exports of high-tech IT products. Applications for the participation in the program are accepted until August 18, inclusive.

To take part in the program, teams with AI projects should effectively address one or more SDGs. These are solutions aimed at ending poverty, building economic growth of countries, improving education, health, social protection and employment, as well as combating climate change and protecting the environment. Only companies under 10 years of age and with a turnover of no more than 1 billion roubles can apply.

Participation in the program will give startups the opportunity to meet and work with large businesses, implement their developments and address SDGs. In addition, the participants will have access to the Skolkovo Foundation services, including investment consulting, technological expertise, and facilitation in entering international markets.

The partner of the program in the nomination “Goal No. 14- Life below water” is Marine Innovation LLC, which focuses on the development of new technologies in the field of fiber-optic, sensor, hydro- and seismoacoustic and information technologies with the application in non-military marine technology.

The results of the first stage of the program will be announced on August 27. The jury, which will include government officials, representatives of international organizations and large businesses, will select the winners to be included in the Russian map of AI SDG projects. The Chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation Arkady Dvorkovich will chair the jury panel.

“We are proud that Skolkovo Foundation has joined the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), a network of UN organizations whose activities contribute to the transition towards sustainable development,” said Arkady Dvorkovich. “Participation in the SDSN will allow us to present the developments of our residents at the global level and create opportunities for cooperation with international network participants. We have gained significant expertise and created an ecosystem of support measures in the field of Artificial Intelligence development. More than 400 companies-residents of the Skolkovo Foundation use advanced AI technologies in medicine, finance, agriculture, e-commerce and other fields. We are looking forward to see all those who use the latest technologies for SDGs among the program participants.”

The next stages of the program will be held from September to November. It will include individual consultations with mentors, international online business missions, participation in the acceleration product development program, and the VUCA MBA educational program. The jury will select the most outstanding cases, and the companies at early stage that have just started commercialization will receive 5 grants to participate in the Tech Explorer acceleration program by the Skolkovo Foundation IT Cluster.

Those projects that are ready to enter foreign markets will be invited to participate in international business missions. Shareholders and founders of the largest Russian IT companies will take mentor roles. Business missions will be held online. During three days, participants will study the specifics of the regions, present their projects at pitch sessions to representatives of large foreign corporations, and meet with potential customers or investors.

The VUCA MBA educational program will focus on four aspects specific to the modern economy – Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity. The mentors will be shareholders and founders of major Russian IT companies, primarily from among the partners of the Skolkovo Foundation IT Cluster. They will share their experience of overcoming the crisis situations, business transformation and strong solutions (tour de force).
